Serifos

Itinerary: Lavrion, Livadi port (optional Serifos Chora), Ganema beach, Megalo Livadi, Poseidon Temple (Cape Sounion), Lavrion

Information on the Cruise: Setting course to Serifos island, with its rugged mining sites, its white and blue houses, magnificent beaches and a calm atmosphere that speaks directly to your senses.

Our first stop is Livadi port, the main port of the island, from where you can visit the Serifos town (Hora) that is built amphitheatrically on a rocky hill commanding the island from the top. You could visit Pano (meaning upper) Hora and Kato (meaning lower) Hora connected by a stairway.  It is worth taking a 10 minutes’ walk up to the Venetian castle, built in the 15th century, to drink in the view of the blue sea!

Next stop is Ganema beach, a beautiful sandy beach, a bit black due to the mines, for a refreshing swim stop before our next destination, Megalo Livadi, for lunch drop off. Serifos cuisine is full of aromas and flavors! You can try meat products such as louzes, syglina (traditional cured pork) and sausages, as well as the islands rich aromatic spices. Taste marathopites and marathotiganites (fennel pies baked or fried), revythada (traditionally cooked chickpeas) with a local variety of raisins, sun-dried octopus, local cheeses such as myzithres and xinomyzithres.

At the picturesque village of Megalo Livadi that was inhabited around 1850 mainly to meet the needs of the miners, you can still see the remains of important buildings of the past – such as the headquarters of the mining company and the hospital. In front of the headquarters building stands the monument in memory of those who died in the strike of the miners, in 1916, for better working conditions. You can walk along the old mines and see the bridge where the loading and the unloading took place.

Depending on wind conditions, instead of Ganema beach and Megalo Livadi village, we can cruise to the eastern side to Psili Ammos sandy beach followed by lunch at Agios Sostis.

On our way back, we will pass by Poseidon Temple at Cape Sounion to enjoy a beautiful sunset
